The [Performing Arts] Week in Pictures

I got a great discount on tickets to see this one man Off-Broadway show that I'd seen posters for but really knew nothing about.  The reviews were good and for $30 I figured, why not? It took 3 tries to make it there and find a taker for the 2nd ticket, but ultimately it all worked out and my friend Allison and I had a hilarious time.
It turned out to be the FUNNIEST thing I have seen in a long time. I was curious to see how one guy could entertain a full audience for an hour and a half, and now I know. By telling a true story about his problems with sleepwalking and the affects it has (and had) on his life.  The story is captivating, and his comedy is stomach crunching in that "I'm laughing so hard it hurts" kind of way. It's not hard to pay attention, though it is hard to catch your breath!  I can't believe I never knew about comedian Mike Birbiglia until now, and I'm so happy to have discovered him!  If you can't see his show in NYC I highly recommend you check out his previous stand up or Comedy Central shows on You Tube and possibly iTunes.
This show not only entertained me, but made an impression on me personally and my outlook on life; an unexpected surprise. I really hope to see it again before it closes (June 7th).

Thanks to Pandora & "MyTy" (my close friend & neighbor, Tyler) I got hooked on Adele early on this year and bought tickets to her NYC show. This was before her SNL appearance or Grammy wins or anyone really knew who she was.
She played at The Roseland Ballroom on 3/5, which also happened to be her 21st Birthday! She's only 21!!!!????!!!!!  She is absolutely ADORABLE.  With a voice self descried as "heartbroken soul" there is really no other way to capture the raspy soul filled deepness that emanates from her lips and connects with the audience.  Add to this her bubbly personality, humility, and graciousness towards her fans (not to mention the bag of candy she passed out to all of us!) and you have a huge show that she made feel intimate and personal.  We even got to "meet" her Mom who came out on stage and presented her with a Birthday Cake as 100s of balloons dropped form the ceiling and we all sang to her.  It was a great show and I look forward to her new album!
Her cover of "Make You Feel My Love" is breathtaking, and "Hometown Glory" is my favorite.

It is a very touristy thing to see Disney Shows on Broadway. The only one I ever had any interest in seeing was Beauty and the Beast (my favorite "princess movie"), and unfortunately it closed (after a good 20yr run) the first year I lived here, before I could afford tickets .  :(  Since then I've become quite the Broadway Girl, but nothing Disney. I had heard SO much about Lion King and how amazing it was, but without any visitors pestering me to go I just never got around to it.  With many shows closing due to the economy, there are a lot of cheap tickets to be had. I scored Orchestra seats for $70 and roommate Sara came along.
I don't want to give anything away, but it is STUNNING. Worth all the hype and then some. I was absolutely flabbergasted.  In the first 5 minutes I was literally jumping up and down in my seat with my mouth wide open.  I couldn't believe what I was seeing and felt like I was dreaming with my eyes open.  I was about as giddy as a 3yr old.  The phrase "the elephant in the room" will never be the same again.
MUST SEE.
