A Fur-ever Home

Mia's been ADOPTED!!!!!!!

On Saturday a family came to interview with me and meet her and by Saturday night it had all been arranged. I was sad it only took a week, but not at all surprised since she's so beautiful and amazing. There were quite a few people interested in her. I knew this was her family and I knew they could give her the home I had saved her for.

We were going to wait until this weekend for them to pick her up so she could fully get over her cough, get spayed, and recover in a home she knew, but I decided it would be healthier and happier for her to go ASAP and for them to get her spayed next week instead. She was miserable being in a crate all day (aside from afternoon walks) and was starting to Houdini herself out. When I put a stop to that with zip ties, she tore up the inside of her crate and I didn't want her swallowing any plastic or hurting herself. So I made arrangements for her to be picked up tonight and go to her new "fur-ever" home. :)

I gave her and her "Baby" a bath. "Baby" is a white & blue stuffed puppy that Mia LOVES and plays fetch with in the park every night--it was dirtier than she was! Then I packed up her chewies, food, treats, and "Lovey" (originally my raccoon from Auntie Karley but we donated it to a better cause) and took her for one last walk.
People Watching, a favorite past time. She's a New Yorker through and through.

Lover and her "Lovey"

The worst part about saying goodbye was how attached she is to me. So much so that she wouldn't leave the apartment with her new family without me. When the Rescue Volunteer came early (to complete the adoption) we walked her together, and I forgot doggie bags. I ran upstairs to grab one and Mia refused to go outside with the Volunteer. She waited at the bottom of the entrance stairs whining for me.

Not to say she wasn't excited to be going home with her family, she was! I gave her hugs and kisses and helped her into the car. She stared out the window as they left, tail wagging, me crying.

I'm not a crier, but I totally cried as she drove away. Completely lost it. Luckily roommate Sara was home to lend her shoulder. I'll see her in about a month once she's been spayed and has gotten used to her home and isn't upset by me coming and going.

She'll be living in Brooklyn with Ana, her daughter Christina (who is becoming a vet tech), and Christina's son Justin (age 5). That's what sealed the deal when I chose them. Justin. They've been searching for a dog for 3 months and he's been afraid of every single one. The instant he saw Mia he melted. He let her lick him, jump around him, and didn't even flinch.
He was hers and she was his. My job is done.

Ana insists Mia will be sleeping with her....I'm betting she ends up with Justin.

Meant to be a Family (Christina, Ana, Justin, & Mia!)
