UNTIL THE LAST ROSE DIES (Poetry)

31 days. Wow. Pat on the back.
I feel like someone in AA--deserving of a "31 days" chip! :)

A dozen roses wrapped in a bundle,
Lucky number 13 hidden in the middle.
Vibrant, deep, red, love.
“I will love you til the last of these roses die” it said.

Anniversaries pass, roses die, thorns prick, love lasts.
Bodies combine, hands memorize, pictures capture, love lasts.
Tears flow, words pierce, anger rages, love lasts.
Miles stretch, letters come, planes fly, love lasts.

Distance grows, hearts break, years mount, love fades.
Trying tries, frustration builds, promises break, love fades.
Rebounds score, new ground tread, friendship asks, love fades.

Freedom rings, strength prevails, hills glow, love is laid to rest.
Moonlight silence, shooting stars, the one place untainted, love is laid to rest.
Petals fall, red, yellow, purple, dirt welcomes, love is laid to rest.
Five minutes to cry, wracking sobs, memories goodbye, love is laid to rest.
Pull away, don’t look back, soaking cheeks, love is laid to rest.

And the last rose stands alone,
And the others have withered with time.
And the last rose stands alone,
And the others have died.
And the last rose stands strong,
And the love has been freed.
And the last rose stands proud,
And it’s love will never die.
